one year since sydney

opera house skin sydney by nightExactly one year ago today Ma and I touched down in Sydney... actually I think about now we were wandering around the Art Gallery...

And you know what... even though it's been a year, I still feel that pull to go back to Sydney. I think I understand now why so many people go to Sydney once and then suddenly pick up stakes and move their... She's a seductress, she woos you and then calls to you with her siren song and you can't help but want to go back.

It's funny really, when I came back from Melbourne a few years ago I don't remember having the same reaction that I've had to Sydney... I even found myself contemplating coming for Mardi Gras next year... but then I realised I hate crowds, so that's never going to work out.

I'm definitely going back though...

Things are slightly less interesting in the here and now... I finished my two days of work after a day and a half (actually if they'd gotten themselves organised properly before I got there then it might have only been one day, but I'm not complaining). It did mean that everything was very rushed for our trip to the movies... I finished work at 5pm and the movie started at 6pm, so there really wasn't time for much of anything, including dinner, which led to much crankiness...

Also leading to the (albeit brief) crankiness yesterday was running into a woman I once did a temping contract for and who made my life an absolute living hell, so much so that on my very final day I walked into the office at 8:50, she walked in at 8:55 and I walked out of the door by 9 because all she'd done was niggle and pick and generally be a bitch in my general direction... so I just walked out. Anyway, all that is to explain that we crossed paths very briefly on my way back from lunch yesterday... I didn't realise it was her at first, and just after I did she said hello to me. Umm, excuse me, we HATE each other... or I certainly hate you and the last time we saw each other wasn't on particularly good terms, what the HELL are you doing talking to me. So I just pretended I hadn't heard her (sunglasses are good for that, you never know where somebody is looking) and kept walking. When I thought about it afterwards, I wanted to say something really evil to her... but thinking about it now and retelling this story I realised that I don't want to give the stupid cow any more influence over my life... she made it hell once, I'm not going to let her mere existence start me thinking about the "should haves" and the "next times". Screw it.

I'm also currently partially deaf in my right ear... every now and again my ear just blocks up and usually I can sort it out fairly quickly, but this time it's kind of sticking around which is less fun. And it's not just like my hearing is "gone"... it's actually got kind of a weird amplified echo thing going on (although that could be my other ear overcompensating). Less fun, and I don't like it.

What I do like however is The Essential Miles Davis double CD I bought after I finished work at lunchtime... I must remember to thank Sugarmonkey for turning me on to Mr Davis. Very cool, very smooth, very Summer afternoon or very cool after a dinner party. And bless you JB HiFi for having it at under $12.

I can't believe it's been a year since Yani-On-Tour either!

You shouldn't rule out Mardi Gras... I don't like crowds either (so you'd never find me at the after party which is absolutely heaving, albeit with plenty of attractive people!), but the parade itself isn't too bad and whilst there are loads of people it's not oppressive. You should do it once I reckon! :)

Scary isn't it... a whole year... I thought about it the other day when you said that you'd now met four people from your blogroll, and I was there when you met 50% of them, myself included obviously...

And yeah, I haven't ruled it out completely... I'm sure I'll do it one day.

Sounds like you have tinnitis.

Yeah, I think I have that as well Victor... normally it's not a problem because it resonates at about the same frequency as my computer or just the general electronic background hum of the world... :P
