winter cravings

the apple pie i have isn't going to taste anywhere nice as this one looksYou know one of the things I really hate about Winter?

Once the weather starts to get all nippy and heaters, blankets and hot beverages are the order of the day my body just starts craving every possible bad and wrong, fattening and/or sugar filled hot food known to man.

Seriously!

A week or so ago I had crappy junk food just about every day for lunch, I've also developed a fetish for hot chocolate and this evening, because I didn't have anything appropriately sweet to have after my somewhat unfulfilling dinner (I pulled three different sets of leftovers out of the freezer pretty much one after the other, none of them seemed particularly fit for human consumption, so I settled on the last one which was passable, just), my body developed this wicked craving for hot apple pie with vanilla icecream.

And of course, the problem with living in a suburb like North Adelaide is that if it's still a reasonable hour, you can go out and find some form of supermarket selling apple pie and vanilla icecream with very little bother.

It's my own fault really... if I'd gotten off the bus a stop early I could have gone to the supermarket on my way home... that way I would probably have had something slightly more interesting for dinner, and could possibly have headed the sugar craving off at the pass...

What I'm really fantasising about, foodwise, right now is having the time and energy to make a big fat slow-cooked casserole... the kind of thing that you can feel sticking to your ribs as you eat it and is that lovely shade of mahogany... and it didn't help that I picked up a free magazine thing at the supermarket just now that is all about making long slow casseroles... grrr...

Okay, enough blather... I should go before my apple pie burns...

It must be the cave man instinct in you that says, "Hey, it's winter and food is hard to come by, so pack in as much energy intense food as you can!"

Just be grateful that your craving only intensifies in winter. My cave man instinct is consistent throughout the year. :P

Yes, but keeping in mind that you probably weigh about as much as my whole left leg, I don't think it's that much of a problem in your case :P

Does your left leg weigh 55 Kgs? :P

What can I say... I have chunky thighs... :P

Okay, probably not, but I could still pick you up and carry you around without too much trouble...
