photo friday: santa mail

santa mailIt's been a very red themed week here at yaniblog... so it seemed appropriate to finish the week off with another dose... the giant Santa's Mail Box sitting across the street from the GPO.

It's been a bit of a Foodie Friday as well... I've been stuffing my face on and off all day... and I think I bought too many honey soy kebabs for dinner...

Add to that the fact that the air-conditioning at work is decidedly on the fritz and has been all week long (the system needs a part from Sydney allegedly so it won't be fixed until some point next week), which does not make me a happy bunny... if there's one thing I hate, it's being overheated... especially in a place that's supposed to be "climate controlled". Plus I was more or less falling asleep at my desk at the beginning of the week... not fun.

Speaking of fun... I had too much fun last night when I finally got around to unpacking my Pixma MP630 printer after it'd been sitting under my bed still sealed up for the last 3 months. Although, seriously... orange tape and instructions at every turn, what the hell is up with that!? But I eventually got it all sorted out and printed Ma's calendar, which finally looks the way it should have always looked... glossy and thick and lush (only don't look too close because I probably could have done with creating the file at a larger size or higher resolution because it's a little grainy when you look really close up but it looks fine at normal viewing distance)... and then I printed out about two dozen 4x6" prints from my Melbourne photos to give to Princess T as part of a "photo mobile" present. I have to say that it works pretty damn well. Now I just need to get rid of the old computer (note to self: must actually switch it on and copy the fonts across) so I have somewhere for the printer to live that's not under my bed.

Part of me does wonder if it was a smart purchase... I really don't do very much printing, but maybe now that I have this I might do more. I did look at the three black and white images that hang between the kitchen and the bedroom door last night and wondered if I shouldn't replace them (since they're so very, very faded now, especially my favourite) with three Benzo pieces or something.

Okay, quick poll (oooh, I could run actual polls in the sidebar now... sorry, distracted myself)... is it better to be honest and tell somebody that no you don't have any plans, but you're also not in the mood for visitors or lie and pretend like you have plans? J messaged me earlier in the day asking what I was up to tonight and I just can't be bothered with doing anything but large amounts of nothing by myself tonight... but the last time I knocked him back a few times he got the hump and we didn't catch up for five months. And it's not like I don't want to see him... I just don't want to see him TONIGHT. It's a quandary.

What's even worse is when he comes back with a message about wanting to introduce me to whoever the latest piece of boyfluff is... who, as he put it, he's "only been eating him for two months"... although I am suddenly wondering if that's his inability to either spell or spellcheck making an appearance and he actually meant "dating"... it's the same key sequence on a phone keypad... probably...

But if I didn't want to see J, I definitely didn't want to meet somebody new... so I told him we'd "stick a pin in it and come back to it later"... haven't had a message back since. Oh well.

On a completely unrelated note... the cost of Christmas has gone up 1.8% to $21,465... or at least the cost for twelve of the days... and I love that they've been working out to cost since 1984...

And I'd like to make a declarative statement if I may... I'm getting an iPhone! In theory.

Yeah, I know, it didn't end quite as declaratively as it started, but I've been thinking about it all this week and there's not really any reason why I couldn't get one (other than the fact that they don't come with a radio as standard, which slightly baffles me, but I'm sure is all about them marketing the crap out of iTunes)... normally Ma and I end up getting the same phone, but that's really just laziness on my part so that I don't have to learn how to operate two different phones. And it would be nice to have a new phone for Christmas, since my current POS is needing to be charged about every day and a half or less. So watch this space...

My basil plant is dying too... I don't know what's wrong with it... it was fine all last week, and then some of the leaves started to droop and it's just generally looking ragged and horrible at the moment... not happy Jan...

But in a week that's been kinda trying (although on the upside I didn't need to storm out at lunchtime this week) there have been several positives...

It was H-San's birthday on Tuesday, so I covered his desk with balloons first thing and we all went out to lunch, which was very pleasant (even if I did have the grilled fish that didn't look like it had been anywhere near a grill).

And for the most part, little kids who don't live in my apartment building make me smile (I'm longing to take a baseball bat to the ones that do right now)... there was a baby in front of me on the bus the other afternoon and I made faces at him all the way home which made him laugh and watch me which made me smile and make more faces. And then tonight as I was leaving the carpark at the supermarket, a 4WD drove past me with a kid in the back who was essentially hanging out of the window (not safe, but kinda cute)... he called out "Hello" and waved to me... and after a couple of seconds of processing time I said hello back.

But now it's dinnertime...

Hiya, re your poll, perhaps take the option that you'd most like if the situation was reversed otherwise being upfront might be the best approach.

Have the same MP630 and think it's great.

Re the iphone, it truly is fantastic (having moved from my old GSM phone recently) and I've been surprised just how much I've used the data, internet and email but then it's interface is oh so intuitive and so much fun. Just be aware (re your charging comment) that with anything other than minimal use, you need to charge it pretty much daily which is a slight negative.

I don't know about Adelaide but I've found 3G with the carrier I was with painfully slow and often non existent despite what seemed like a great plan and yesterday I reluctantly bit the bullet and moved to Telstra (a company I don't like!) and the difference is like night and day.

I (and friends!) have also spent daft amounts of time and money trying to decide which protective cover is best so be warned!

Hope your a/c gets fixed pronto - am off to Scotland at the weekend so staying warm will be the challenge! Hope you enjoy your 'me time' Friday evening, cheers
