In five days and *checks clock* 49 minutes J, my best friend on the planet, celebrates his 21st Birthday... and he celebrates it on the other side of the planet in London.
There are a couple of quotes about friendship that kind of relate really well to him and me...
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail. But a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, "That was frickin' awesome."
A friend will help you move house, but a real friend will help you move the body.
And in the case of J and myself, we also kind of know where all the other bodies are buried.
Its weird... he's the kind of person who I adore and who annoys me in pretty much equal quantities. But we get each other... and we have, pretty much since day one. It was one of those high octane, very intense, must-know-everything-about-you-right-this-second type beginnings, but its a relationship where we're both pupil and teacher at any given moment, and that's held us in pretty good stead overall.
Our relationship can be very cerebral and metaphysical but at the same time its equally juvenile and purile... its a good mix.
He's also the only person I know that its fairly likely that having a conversation with him will require the use of a dictionary at some stage. I use big words sometimes, he wants to know what they mean, I like to give him the actual definitions.
And now he's in London...
And its about to be his birthday...
And I'm broke and on the other side of the planet... so I can't even send him anything.
So I'm doing my usual trick, finding either porn or artwork, or both and making him up a cybercard of my own... although I just realise I need to change the message, make it a bit more personal and the way I write normal greeting cards...
*fiddles with the card*
There... much better.
Hopefully he's going to be back at Christmas, coz there's nothing quite like sitting around talking crap with him. Or watching Iron Chef, drinking beer and scarfing down pizza. Or doing impromptu photoshoots at 3am in the basement carpark of my local supermarket. Or having him show up at my door with a tree branch and a handful of sandpaper so we could craft me a walking stick/staff. Or going to see all three Matrix movies back to back to back. Or laughing maniacally through another episode of Mythbusters as Adam and Jamie blow up more stuff...
I miss ya J...
