random chainmail hotness

Today's Random Hotness comes from Chainmail.com via Tottyworld. While I'm pretty sure I'd find Dean (left) and Scott (right) just as attractive in their "street clothes"... I do wonder if it's technically kinky to find them MORE attractive because they're in chainmail! Although having said that, I'm pretty sure the whole shirtless thing helps.

book tease

I was doing that whole link following thing again, and ended up at Dewey's Dartboard where I found this interesting little meme...

Here are the rules:
  1. Grab the nearest book
  2. Open the book to page 123
  3. Find the fifth sentence
  4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences (#5,6,7) on your blog, along with these instructions
  5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! Just grab what is closest. No cheating.
Well, the closest book to my computer is the book I'm currently reading...

the sword of calandraThe Sword of Calandra by Susan Dexter...

And the appropriate sentences are...

And when I'd listened that once, I'd given him the key to my ear. I was lost in that minute, and too stupid to know it. I don't exist anymore.

So, a little on the overly dramatic side...

my list

I'm stealing a leaf out of Eddy's book....

This is a list of 5 celebrities who would get your heart throbbing and your partner is not allowed to be jealous or mad about it.

After I saw his list... and then Sam's list... it kind of got me to thinking who was on my list. This is the "standard" list... other people come in and out of it over time, depending on what movies or teevee I'm watching at the time.

So, in no particular order (well, other than alphabetical)...

1. Brad Pittbrad
2. Charlie Hunnamcharlie
3. Heath Ledgerheath
4. Matt Damonmatt
5. Orlando Bloomorlando

montage monday: boys of summer

boys of summer 2006Something slightly different for today's Monday Montage... these are the shots of random beach guys that I mentioned after Tuesday's Camera Club beach shoot. My shots of the models weren't all that inspiring, since I wasn't really inspired by said models (one of whom is the top row, center), so I'll post all the other guys that were wandering around the beach at the time... or stopping to ogle our female models, like the two guys in the center row left were. I have no idea what the guys in the white shirts were doing... they had a laptop with them but they were down at the beach eating chips and being all "dot com".

In other Monday Musings...

I think the whole walking thing is actually having an effect... my jeans keep sliding down and I have to keep stopping to hike them back up again (at least in the house when I'm not wearing a belt)... it even happened on Saturday when I put on a pair of freshly laundered jeans, which are usually tighter than jeans that have relaxed a little with wear. This is definitely good... although I have to admit that the last time I bought jeans I went up a size so they would fit comfortably... if and when these jeans won't actually stay on me when they're "fresh", that's when I know that not only is the walking really working, but it's also time to buy new jeans.

My couch is still in the shop... and my living room looks so big and empty without it... it's so strange! Although I'm pretty sure that once I get it back I will have the same reaction I did when I first got it... that it seems huge...

I saw an escaped book on my walk this morning... this book actually. I was just going past the bus stop at the far end of Jeffcott Street and I noticed a book on the bench there, and on it were a couple of Book Crossing stickers, which made me smile. I probably would have picked it up had it not been for the fact that it was a Western. When I got home I checked it out online and found out that it's one of 350 recently escaped books in South Australia (although only 8 of those are in North Adelaide). I've thought about setting some of my books free via the whole Book Crossing thing, but I think I'm too much of a packrat. Plus I also wonder how many books actually end up just cooling their heels in Lost Property boxes instead of going on to bigger and better adventures like they're supposed to.

Because of all the walking I've been doing, my heels and the outside edges of my feet are all dry and cracking... much less attractive, I can tell you... so last week I got my hands on some really good stuff to sort it out... NS-8 Active Dry Skin Complex... it's supposed to be all natural and organic and whatnot, and on the plus side it does seem to be working. I just wish I could work out what the smell of it reminds me of... it's kind of a Christmasy smell... but I don't think that's actually what it reminds me of... and looking at the list of ingredients was no help, it's full of things with funky smells... Aloe Vera, Evening Primrose Oil, Witch Hazel, Menthol, Thyme, Sage, Ylang Ylang... so no help there. I just can't decide whether I actually LIKE the smell or not.

I close off today's ramble with a question... why is that old people feel the need to say good morning to people who are minding their own business, walking along, WEARING FRICKIN HEADPHONES! I went past an old guy who did that to me today... actually I think he did it to me a couple of times last week, possibly more, I don't know, I'm usually not paying attention. I didn't reply because first off I don't want to encourage him, and secondly he has to learn that there's no point in talking to people wearing headphones because they can't hear him... or choose to pretend they can't, which is pretty much the same thing really. Stoopid old people...

it's not allowed

Sometimes this whole "everything happens for a reason" thing pops up at the weirdest moments...

Earlier this week I had the printer out so I could print out my freebie movie tickets, and I figured that I might as well print out one of my old and unfinished vampire short stories... well, the only unfinished one actually... I never did pin down the whole "major plot" thing for it, which kind of makes it hard to finish, but that didn't stop it being about 45 pages long. Anyway, I haven't read it in ages and ages, and figured I should probably cast an eye over it.

Originally it was inspired by an old friend, Spike, or rather a particular visual image I had of him which used to float around in my head back when I was walking to work in the city every day... in fact large chunks of both that and other stories manifested themselves when I used to walk to work, but this one kind of took on a life of it's own, until it managed to incorporate quite a few of the gay boys I used to know in some random alter ego type of way. Like the handful of vampire stories I've written, it was kind of half dark and gothic and then half soft gay porn... not that there's anything wrong with that, it just tends to be the way I write vampire stuff.

The story kind of held up okay actually, it needs some editing here and there, and it still needs that one massive plot point, but mostly it was good.

Having read the story through again, Spike was on my mind, the character I cast him as plays a major role in the story and it just got me to thinking about him.

Anyway, today I'm flicking through the Sunday Mail and what should I come across but a photo of him and his partner (or "housemate" as the story refers to them... puh-lease!)... they'd been attacked in their own home and stabbed repeatedly... thankfully not fatally.

After I had a slight freakout I immediately grabbed my mobile to flick through and see if I still had Spike's number... alas, no... but a quick search on the White Pages site turned up an appropriate mobile number and I dashed off a quick text message saying I was thinking about them both. If they message or call me back, good... if not, that's okay too... Spike had drifted out of my life a while back, and it was probably a healthy thing for both of us... if he comes back into my life now that's okay, but I don't have this overwhelming need to see him. So long as I know he's okay.

It also made me think about a quote from one of Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake books where Anita is explaining why she will protect one of the other characters, someone she doesn't especially even like... I wish I could find the quote, or even remember which book it's in...

Okay, I just officially freaked myself out... I suddenly remembered that it was in Blue Moon, so I went into the living room to grab the book and look for the quote... I opened the book randomly to page 198-199 and looked at the text... then turned back to page 196 (ie back one page) and found the quote I was looking for... I hate when that happens...

So the quote is...

"Nathaniel is mine now. He's on the list of people that I'll protect. He's mine and no one can hurt him without answering to me. Jason's mine. You're all mine, and no one can hurt what's mine. It's not allowed."

Spike is on my list... it used to be a longer list, but it kind of got pared down over time, but Spike is still on it, as is J... not to say that they can't take care of themselves, J especially, but they're still on the list. So, to read that someone had hurt Spike, after my first thoughts of "Oh my god", the second thought hot on it's heels was "That's not allowed!".

I hope he's doing okay.

movies: memoirs of a geisha

memoirs of a geishaBecause Ma and I saw so many movies over December and January (namely The Brothers Grimm, King Kong, The Chronicles of Narnia, Chicken Little, Valiant, The Producers, Underworld: Evolution and Brokeback Mountain) and I always flash my Cinebuzz card when we go, we ended up with two free tickets for movies in February (they had this whole "See 3 in Dec/Jan for 1 free in Feb!" thing going on)... if we'd seen Harry Potter at Greater Union instead of Reading, we actually would have ended up with 3 tickets... oh well, you can't have everything...

Anyway... because Ma has to work late on Tuesday, we decided to take one of the free tickets and go and see Memoirs of a Geisha today.

This was another movie I've been excited about for a while... I read the book ages and ages ago, and when I heard they were making it into a movie and that Michelle Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang were going to be in it, I couldn't wait to see it.

I definitely need to get hold of the book again though... while the movie didn't disappoint, I think it did stray from the book at certain points, plus leaving a whole bunch out, so I'll be interested to go back and read the "full story".

Like I said though, it definitely didn't disappoint... visually it was just stunning... especially the geisha training sequences and Ziyi's dance performance, both of which were just stunning. The standout performance for me though was Suzuka Ohgo was young Chiyo... she was just amazing... and the image of her in the grey kimono with the orange sash running through the orange "corridor" definitely sticks with me...

I'm still working out where it comes on my list of "Visually Stunning Asian Themed Movies", along with The Last Samurai, Hero, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and House of Flying Daggers... I think it probably falls between Hero and Crouching Tiger... although parts of it were very beautiful.

It was another long movie, at 2 hours & 25 minutes, but like Brokeback Mountain (which was 2 hours & 15 minutes) there wasn't any point where I found myself noticing how long it had been running, in fact, I was kind of shocked when it ended (unlike King Kong, where I was just glad it was over).

Although I'm very drawn to the whole Asian aesthetic, I have to say that there was something about this movie that kept me distanced from it. Whether it was the fact that the main character is very reserved and in some ways distanced from her own life, or whether it's that kind of Japanese politeness thing, I don't know, but there were a couple of places where I didn't feel as connected to Ziyi's character as I possibly could or should have been. I think I was on my own in that though, because Ma had a moment after the movie was over, she kind of freaked me out, she wouldn't look away from the screen during the credit run, and wouldn't talk to me... turns out she was fine, she just didn't want to break the spell of the movie. Silly rabbit...

Once again, having said all of that, this one is definitely another one for the DVD collection when it comes out.

random californian hotness

This week's Random Hotness comes via Mel Roberts retro photographic book, California Boys. It's kind of ironic, last time I tried something summery the pictures were a little "overcast" but the weather outside was sunny... today, the pictures are bright but the weather is overcast!

Today also happens to be the birthday of my best friend at High School, Pete... although he was more Eastern Euro blonde than Californian blonde... and to whom I gave my fellatial favours to for about three years running during our highschool years... he's married now. Happy Birthday Pete!

faerie template

faerie 2006This is most definitely the gayest template I've come up with so far...

The little faerie thing is from Happy House and was a gift for my birthday at one of the places I used to work... the blue base says
"Away with the Fairies"... and it used to sit on top of my computer at work. It was kind of a doubly appropriate present, since I was off with the fairies a lot of the time (not in a bad way, but I did all of their design work, so it was kind of expected), but also because everyone knew I was a big homo.

Now she sits on top of the subwoofer for my computer speakers and usually has the USB cord for my digital camera hanging around her. The yellow background in the shot is my kitchen counter... yep, the kitchen counter (last seen during the ant invasion), all the drawer knobs all through the apartment, the bathroom mirror surround, the top of my dressing table, the toilet seat and the shower head are all the same bright yellow. It's actually not as bad as it sounds, or it could just be that I'm immune to it after nearly ten years here.

I'm not sure how long it will be before this template drives me stark raving bonkers... or I have to start blogging in sunglasses, but I should survive...

So, take out your sunglasses, it's... yani.faerie
