random jockstrap hotness

Today's Random Hotness features Aquaman, singer, underwear model and all round Renaissance Man, Alan Ritchson...

To be honest, I'm not really familiar with ANY of his "acting" work... but he does keep showing up in the blogsphere in underwear, and he looks damn good while he's doing it. Plus what's not to love about a low slung jockstrap?

Oh, and Random Hotness will be on hiatus next week while I'm in Sydney, but I'll try and have a bumper sized Hotness the week after to make up for it.

mmmm hot tradesman

not the right kind of tradie, but do you know how hard it is to find a picture of a sexy electrician? So obviously the Universe decided to make up for yesterday's disaster by sending me an electrician who was a) on time, b) friendly and helpful and c) had a butt like two cling peaches and calves you could have cracked walnuts on...

That's all I really ask of a trademan... that's he's on time, and he's hot...

It was all remarkably painless actually... I'd ended up talking to my landlord yesterday (turns out it would have been illegal for me to just call in a tradie myself which seems really, really dumb) and said I'd be happy to arrange the tradesman and pay for it and then work it out later. He seemed okay with that (although I think he had a bit of a sulk about the fee they quoted me), and it was all arranged for 8am this morning.

So I got up a little earlier than usual, did my walk, got home with half an hour to spare before he was due to rock up, so took a very quick shower, pulled the bed apart (okay, not so much apart as I just took the matress off the base) so he could get to the powerpoint, got dressed, had some breakfast, thumbed through the junk mail and was reading my book when his van arrived. Took him forever to get from the truck to my place though... I think he was having a quiet ciggy before he clocked on, but he pretty much arrived on my doorstep on the quoted time.

Plus... CUTE! All King Gee shorts and butch workbelt and big chunky boots and bitable chunky thighs and pretty much a lush bubblebutt... I thought about taking a photo while he was all facing the opposite direction and fixing things, but it just didn't feel right, so I passed (plus it would have had to be with my phone camera anyway).

He also didn't charge me extra or anything even though I wanted him to replace the old powerpoint with the equally aged one from the bathroom and then put the new one in the bathroom (my bed goes right up against the powerpoint that was broken and I didn't want to accidentally switch it off at any point... the old ones have these big chunky switches rather than the newer streamlined ones, so they're harder to switch on and off).

So while it ended up costing me $115 (which isn't bad even though $100 of that was the call out fee for the first half hour... which is probably a lot, but honestly, I don't care), he only really charged me the callout fee and the physical powerpoint, so as far as I'm concerned it was worth every penny.

Now all I have to do is properly arrange something with the stupid landlord about whether he's going to credit my rent or pay me the money or what... and you just know that that is going to be what takes forever and gives me a headache.

blogroll meme

I lifted this one from LargeTony... who doesn't actually remember where he lifted it from...

I will say right now that there are thirty-six questions in this meme, and I only have seventeen blogs on my daily reading list, of which twelve are "personal" blogs... so there are going to be some double and triple (quadruple, septuple) answers...
  1. Which blog has been on your current blogroll the longest?
Hmmm... you know, I don't honest remember... maybe The Other Andrew.

  2. Which blog is the most recent addition?
I think it was Five By Five...

  3. Which blog sends you the most traffic?
Overall I think it would be the old version of Aussielicious (since I'm not in the blogroll on the new version)... but just recently it's actually been a blog that isn't on my blogroll at all, L'homme Est Un Concept (aka Man is a Concept).

  4. Which blog has the best design?
Hmmm... not quite sure how to answer this one... there are a few blogs that have good design elements... I like the clear white simplicity of Five By Five... you can't go past Muzbot's banners for cuteness and originality... and I've always been partial to the general design of Tom's Place.

  5. Which blog has the best title?
Probably Much Ado About Monty... I don't really read that many blogs with "funny" titles.

  6. Which blog has the best images?
Overall I would have to say that that was fellow shutterbug The Other Andrew... not only for his own photos, but the cool vintage stuff he digs up.

  7. Which blog has the most self pics?
Hands down that would be Brent Corrigan's blog!

  8. Which blog is most similar to yours?
Hmmm... I dunno... maybe Tom's Place... single, fabulous, camera-shy, blog about everything and nothing... sounds about right.

  9. Which blog is most different?
Quite a few of the blogs I read I'd count as being "different" to mine, but if I had to name the "most different" I'd probably say Electro^Plankton just because it's a "technology" themed blog.

  10. Which blog is most political?
I'm not really that into "political" blogs, but if I had to chose one I'd probably say Like Sands..., he has some very strong opinions when it comes to certain political topics.

  11. Which blogger posts most often?
Hands down, that would be Andrew...

  12. Which blogger do you wish posted more?
Tony... especially now that he's decided that this will be his last year, I need to cram as much Tonyness in (and you can take that any way you like!) before it's all over.

  13. Which blogger lives closest to you?
    Either Tom, Brenton or Andrew...

  14. Which blogger lives the farthest away?
I'm going to steal Tony's answer in reverse and say him.

  15. Which blogger is most likely to become famous?
Oooooh... that's a hard one... I guess the easy answer is Brent, because he's famous (and infamous) already... or else Tom after he opens his fine dining establishment...

  16. Have you ever dreamed about someone on your blogroll?
Not as such... but fellow bloggers have influenced or been mentioned in my dreams before...

  17. Do you have a crush on anyone on your blogroll?
Maybe a bit... yes. And if you think I'm going to say who you're some sort of crazy person... crazy meme... whatever.

  18. Have you ever kissed anyone on your blogroll?
Nope, having never met any of them...

  19. Who's the best kisser?
How should I know... see the previous question!

  20. Who's the sexiest on your blogroll?
Oh god, you're determined to just keep pushing this whole theme aren't you... well it's probably a good thing that I can just take the easy way out and say Brent...

  21. Who's the most athletic?
I would probably have to say Brenton, what with the marching/dancing and the acrobatics and the former lifesaving and whatnot... Tom would possibly come a close second with all the swimming though.

  22. Who's the tallest?
    I would probably say Tom.

  23. Who's the shortest?
Either Eddie or Andrew, I'm not completely sure.

  24. Who's the strongest?
Ummmm... Brenton probably... or maybe Bobby.

  25. Who's the youngest?
    That would be David!

  26. Who's the oldest?
I'm thinking probably James... James or maybe Andrew... one of the two (sorry to whoever is the younger).

  27. Who's the wealthiest?
Well considering that he just counted up all his loose change, I'd say Johnnie...

  28. Who's the most creative?
Ooooh... that's a toss up between Muz and Andrew I think.

  29. Which blogger would be the life of the party?
Hmmm... I'm not sure, given that how somebody is on their blog and how they really, really are can be quite different... maybe Monty?

  30. Which blogger would you go shopping with?
Andrew... for the bookstores and associated perving on cute redheads...

  31. Which blogger would you go hiking/camping with?
I really, really, really don't do outdoor wilderness activities... but possibly Eddie, just because I think he would be even less at ease in the outdoors than me and it would be funny... hehe. Failing that Tony, because he WOULD be completely at ease outdoors, so at least one of us knew what they were doing.

  32. Which blogger would you have coffee with?
Monty... I don't know why, just Monty...

  33. Which blog makes you laugh the most?
Lord... depends on the day I guess... and I don't really "laugh" when I'm reading through my blogroll, the most you'll usually get out of me is a smile. But since I have to choose, Josh, because his blog is, you know, supposed to be funny...

  34. Which blog is the most heartwarming?
Tony... when he talks about his Granny or just proves what a sweetheart he can be.

  35. Which blogger do you think is the best cook?
Again, that's a toss up... either Tom (I've used one of his recipes in the past) or Eddie, since his stuff always looks nice when he posts photos of it... of course, how it tastes is anybody's guess.

  36. Which blogger would you most want to meet your family?
A dangerous question to ask just before I'm about to take "my family" deep into fellow Blogger territory... I'm gunna be wussy and go with three people... Tom, Andrew and Eddie... just coz.

very very broken

things that are brokenAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Okay, I feel a little better now... call me paranoid, but it seems like the Universe in it's finite wisdom has decided that I need to pay for my trip to Sydney before I leave...

So today it made the sky fall in.

It's lucky that I was out on my walk... it's lucky that nothing caught on fire or shortcircuited or blew up... it's lucky that nobody was hurt and only two things were actually damaged... but goddammit!

When I came back from my walk I walked into the bedroom and discovered that the (fairly sizable) Fred With Tires print I have hanging on the wall over my bed had fallen clean off the wall (the hook snapped in two), pretty much demolishing the powerpoint underneath it, and was just generally both bad and wrong.

Needless to say I was a little freaked out... I still am a little bit, but mostly now I'm pissed off. Stupid hook, stupid picture, stupid powerpoint, stupid landlord, stupid stupid.

Added to which, my computer, alarm clock, bedside lamp, external hard drive and computer speakers all plug into that powerpoint (okay, technically they all plug into a powerboard that plugs into that powerpoint, but you get the idea)... so at present everything is running off an extension cord out of the bathroom.

It could have been worse of course... I could have been in bed at the time (although I don't usually sleep with my head or the pillows flat up against that wall, and none of the glass seems to have made it into or onto the bed for the most part)... but with only five days and change left until we head away, it couldn't have come at a worse time really. Okay, it might have been marginally worse to come home from Sydney and discover the whole mess then, but at least I wouldn't have to try and deal with it before I leave.

And because my landlord is a complete tossbag, I have to decide whether or not to bother trying to get him to fix it for me, or if I should just call an electrician myself, and possibly just get it over and done with and fixed before I go instead of waiting the three weeks or whatever that he'll make me wait if I take it to him.

I also need to remember NOT to unplug that powerpoint, no matter what... I already did that once this morning... I was going to rearrange it slightly, but then suddenly the computer shut off, and I realised that I can't fiddle... grrrrrrr...

If I had to find some sort of silver lining in this it would be a very, very tiny one (not so much a lining as a speck), and it was kinda interesting to discover that underneath the powerpoint cover was a tiny scrap of wallpaper... so it looks like originally the bedroom was papered with slightly odd looking wallpaper.

It was also slightly weird that last night I was waking up pretty much on an hourly (or maybe two hourly) basis... as though part of me knew it was going to happen and kept waking me up, just in case. Granted it could just have easily been because it was hot and stuffy last night...

But if you'll excuse me, I think I'm gunna go and sulk now...

blue skies

blue skiesblue skiesI looked in my folder full of these photos this morning and realised that there were hardly any "non street art" photos left... and for whatever reason, I just couldn't face that today... maybe I've finally reached my saturation point on street art photos, I dunno...

Although with less than a week left until Sydney (a week from now I'll be doing SOMETHING in Sydney) I do know that there will probably be a glut of Sydney images after the trip, so maybe by the time they're done I'll be okay with the street art again. Or maybe I'm just having one of those days.

Possibly the whole blue sky thing seemed appealing because I really haven't seen much sky the last couple of days because it's been warm so the house has been all shut up...

smashed broccoli

smashed broccoli with grilled chickenI originally caught the recipe for smashed broccoli (supposedly you can "smash" potatos as well, but I haven't looked for a recipe for that yet) by accident when I happened across an episode of Huey's Cooking Adventures (he annoys the hell out of me, but occasionally makes something that looks somewhat interesting), and it sounded really, really nice. And also simple.

But I didn't write down the recipe or anything, so when I came to make it I had to do a Google search on "smashed broccoli" which lead me to a recipe that sounded about right, that I then corrupted a little to suit both my own tastes and the contents of my pantry...

I'm fully aware that it doesn't LOOK terribly interesting.... I'm not going to come up with a description for it's appearance, I'm sure you can all do that on your own... but trust me, it tastes about a million times better than it looks. I would suggest that you serve it with some form of chicken, in my case a nice piece of grilled chicken straight off the George Foreman grill (which I usually do every Monday... very predictable). And this recipe should serve two people (or one greedy-guts like me).

Smashed Broccoli

1 head of broccoli, including stems (coarsely chopped)
1 cup chicken or vegetable stock
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 garlic cloves (coarsely chopped)
pinch of chili flakes (to taste)
2 tablespoons plain yogurt
salt and black pepper

Heat the olive oil in a medium pot then add the chili flakes and garlic (the dry garlic flakes work just as well as fresh garlic).

Throw in the broccoli and toss to coat in the oil. Pour in the chicken stock, cover, and let the broccoli steam for 10-15 minutes until almost all the liquid has gone.

When it is quite soft, mash about half of the broccoli with a fork or potato masher until smooth, leaving the other half mostly untouched. The broccoli should be partly smooth and partly chunky.

Stir in the yogurt and season with salt and pepper. Serve with chicken.

montage monday: benzo

by benzoThis idea has been ticking along in the back of my brain for a little while now... an "all Benzo" montage... I've photographed more than enough of his work to fill up all the squares, and it also shows both the diversity of his artwork, but also the themes... the faces, the bots, the tikis... and the other bits and pieces that kinda exist outside of categories right now.

Stupid damn weather... can't make up it's stupid mind what temperature it wants to be... *mutter*... suddenly, after last week being wonderfully cool and pleasant, this week is going to be all hot and manky. I just hope that the Sydney forecast for the beginning of next week holds on... mid twenties... niiiiiice!

You know how sometimes you go back and find something and wonder why the hell you never knew it existed, and it's just annoying... I had one of those incidents yesterday. I was watching some show on the ABC about photography and started fiddling with my digital camera and suddenly wanted to flick through the manual. And as with all these things, as soon as you want to find the manual, you have no idea where the hell it is. In the process of looking for it, I had a look in the original box and discovered that there was an audio visual cable still in the plastic. I honestly don't remember ever seeing the cord, although I'm sure I was much more interested in getting my hands on the camera than anything else in the box. I eventually found the manual (in a bag with all my other manuals, where you would expect it to be, to be honest) and it turns out that the cable is so you can hook the camera up to the teevee and view the photos on there. Only it's doubly interesting because the camera also works "live" when it's connected to the camera... which ended up with me looking at myself on the teevee... very odd.

I happened across this really cool recipe the other day too... Smashed Broccoli. Sounds weird, looks slightly unfortunately, but damn it's tasty. I'm planning on making it again tonight, and I might post the recipe (not that it's overly complicated... broccoli, chicken stock, chili) later on.

I decided to watch the new series, Jekyll on the ABC last night. An up-to-date version of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde... and damn it was good! They didn't go with the really over the top version of Hyde ala The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen... essentially the difference came down to a set of contacts, a slightly different hairstyle and colour and a truckload of personality from James Nesbitt. You have to love a version of Mr Hyde who loves Disney musicals and can throw a dead lion over a vast distance. The show originally aired in England as one hour episodes, but the ABC seems to have decided that lumping them together as two hour "telemovies" was a better idea, and while I don't disagree, it just means it will be over all too soon.

And that's about it really...

People find it really easy to get along with you. You suit most tastes.

And while you're very sweet, you're not boring or ordinary.

You have an attraction to the exotic, and you could show up anywhere... doing almost anything!

You are spirited, energetic, and a total kick to be around.

You're also quite funny. Your sense of humor is on the goofy side, and it fits you well.

pre-travel haircut

marie claire and fifi always got the two for one perm special at the salonWoohooooooo! Haircut Day!

And double woohoo because it's my "pre-travel Sydney vacation haircut and colour"... gotta be happy with that. And I am...

It's the same colour we did back in November, the blonde that matches my eyebrows and looks (at least until I start to get regrowth) like it could be a natural colour.

The cut is short and a little chunky and just a good, easy length, which I like. I haven't had it cut since before Christmas, and it was starting to get to that really, really ratty stage where it just doesn't look any good no matter how much care and attention you may or may not give it. And since I no longer have the patience for involved, complex hairstyles, the less time I have to think about it, the happier I am.

I caught the bus into town for my appointment, which wasn't overly traumatic, except when the (I'm guessing) homeless guy tried to sell me some sort of "Australian teeshirt". He did ramble something about it, but all I really heard at the end was "$5" so I just fobbed him off and then he mumbled something else and asked if I was sure. Yes, in fact, I was sure as soon as you mentioned money... now go away please. I didn't say that of course, but he quickly wandered off anyway.

I do love my hairdresser, Tink, though... she's just good fun, and we have similar tastes in a lot of things, so that always makes for good gossip. So much so I think that I often realise halfway through one of our conversations that the other clients and hairdressers aren't really having conversations, but seem to be half listening to ours. I know I'm fascinating and everything, but really...

While she was getting the swatches for my colour (which I never actually ended up looking at, since I knew what colour I wanted) I started talking to her about Ma's colour (which I always hate because it's too dark when she has it done), so we workshopped that briefly... I'm going to have to drag Ma in and make her let Tink do her hair at some point I think...

When I was finished Ma and wandered around town for a little bit, mostly in the vague attempt to find me something for breakfast, since I'd only had an Iced Coffee (and was having a little bit of a headspin... actually the fact that I've had two 600ml Strong Iced Coffees might be the reason I have a slight headache now)... which was an ordeal in itself. While I'm on the subject, memo to Starbucks... charging $7 for a bacon and egg muffin is just WRONG and you should stop that now, thanks!

Ma had been having a wander of her own while I was having my hair done and she discovered that Hardly Normal had 2GB memory cards for $25, under half price in fact. And we'd had the conversation the week before about whether or not it was a good idea to get a new one for my digital camera, since the one I have is only 512MB... and although I've never managed to fill it up with photos, I've never spend four days taking an obscene amount of photos without the ability to dump them off the camera. Now all I have to worry about it the battery... but I'm thinking I just might charge it up each evening whether it needs it or not. I know, I know... I'm overthinking things again...

Anyway, next step was to shuffle off to the supermarket... and I'll freely admit, I'm officially "spoiled" (yeah, you can all shut up now)... the concept of going to the supermarket around noon instead of just after it opens at 8am is just annoying and gives me the irrits. All those people going about their business and just getting in my way... I dunlikeit... not fun.

I did run into the woman who used to be my boss back in the Stone Age (okay, maybe it was more like the Iron Age... but it was certainly some time ago now) and her hubby (who's just amusing) and we had a brief little chat and whatnot before going on our separate ways. I technically could have just walked right past her and I don't think she would have noticed me... and maybe normally I might have done that, but it was nice to say hello.

When we got home and I'd unpacked everything I was leafing through the bits out of weekly papers that Ma brings me (usually just the comics and the entertainment liftouts) and flicked through the Adelaide Scene liftout like I usually do before having a quick squizz at the Mr half of the Miss and Mr Adventure columns on the back page. Now they've cycled through a few Mr's and a few Miss's during the column's run... and the current Mr is one Michael Harry and while I usually roll my eyes while I'm reading his stuff, I pretty much always have a skim through it anyway. And the first paragraph really blew my mind this week...
Matt was a surfie from Sydney I went out with for about five minutes, four years ago...
I read it, and re-read it, and then re-read it again... and thought to myself "he can't mean what I think he means... can he?" so I skimmed the rest of the article quickly... and yes, he did indeed out himself in his column. Maybe he'd outed himself in a previous column and I hadn't read it, I dunno... but it just threw me for a loop. Maybe because he just looks like the total clueless straight boy complete with bad hair in the photo at the top of the column (and Michael, the "Yes, it's really me" teeshirt has to go)... I dunno. The photo I eventually found on the Advertiser website is much, much better (bordering on cute even), but still... I wasn't expecting it (oh, and somebody really needs to just upload the column from the previous week onto Michael's "blog" so that there actually ARE some entries there... it's just sad otherwise... it also wouldn't kill The Advertiser to get some sort of navigation structure to their site, I only found the blog by googling it). Cool, but weird... but then I like discovering fellow 'mo's in strange and unexpected places...

We eventually had a wander up and down the street to find something to eat (which might have been a mistake, since I wasn't really hungry to begin with), and then Ma toddled off and left me to my own devices.

But who cares really... coz I'm blonde again... WOOHOO!
